Voice-Based Resume Creation

Context

I explored how AI and voice interfaces could simplify the process of creating a resume. The idea was to replace a long, form-based flow with a short and natural conversation - users simply talk about their experience, and the system automatically generates a structured resume ready for editing.

Problem

Many users stop at the resume creation stage.

The form feels long, formal, and time-consuming - especially for people who don’t have a ready-made CV or aren’t sure how to describe their experience properly.

Key observations:

  • A significant portion of users don’t complete their profiles

  • Many struggle to describe their experience clearly

  • Mobile users often abandon the form because typing takes too long

Idea

“What if creating a resume could be as easy as telling your story?”

Users tap “Tell your story,” record a short voice note describing their experience, and the system:

  • Transcribes their speech using Whisper

  • Analyzes the content

  • And structures it into a resume format using ChatGPT, ready for review and editing.

Goals

For users

  • Reduce the friction of filling in long forms

  • Save time (5 minutes instead of 20)

  • Make the process more natural and mobile-friendly

For the product

  • Increase completion rate of new resumes

  • Reduce drop-offs during onboarding

  • Reinforce robota.ua’s image as an innovative platform

Research & Insights

To better understand users’ behavior and challenges, I conducted 30 in-depth interviews with job seekers across different categories - from students and entry-level specialists to experienced professionals.

The goal was to uncover what makes the resume creation process feel difficult or discouraging.

Key findings:

  • Uncertainty. Many users felt unsure how to describe their experience “the right way” or what recruiters actually expect

  • Overload. Long forms with multiple required fields caused frustration and early drop-off

  • Mobile friction. Most users browse robota.ua on mobile, and typing detailed descriptions on small screens felt tedious and error-prone

These insights led to the idea of a conversational, voice-first flow that would make the process faster, more natural, and human-centered.

Process

Mapping the user flow

The flow starts with a single call-to-action — “Tell your story.”

The system asks simple, guided questions and builds a structured resume draft based on the conversation.

UX concept

  • Clean recording screen with visual sound waves

  • Real-time feedback while AI processes the audio

  • Editable resume preview with highlighted fields

AI logic

  • Whisper for accurate voice-to-text transcription

  • ChatGPT for extracting key details (positions, companies, years, skills) and formatting them into a resume layout

User feedback

I tested the prototype with a small group of job seekers.

Most described it as “much less stressful” and “more natural than typing everything manually.”

Outcome

The concept demonstrates how voice and AI can transform a typically tedious process into something intuitive and human.

“Voice Resume” redefines how users interact with job platforms — it feels conversational, efficient, and accessible.
